On December 26, 2024, under number 103, a memo was sent to all central officials and directors of correctional institutions regarding the generalization of the family visit e-platform. This initiative is part of the administration’s efforts to improve the quality of services provided to beneficiaries and enhance administrative procedures through digitalization, in line with the Moroccan government’s efforts to improve governance and transparency.
The e-platform aims to simplify the process of family visits by allowing inmates’ families to book visit appointments online in advance, view the required documents to complete the visit, and access a list of available products in prison stores with their prices. It also facilitates the electronic transfer of funds to the inmates. A pilot version of this platform was launched at the Ain Seba local prison, where the experiment showed significant success in organizing visits and reducing waiting times, which was highly appreciated by the families of the inmates.
The memo emphasizes that this service will be gradually implemented starting in the first week of January 2025, to include all correctional institutions across the Kingdom. A central mixed committee will oversee the platform’s implementation, monitor its progress, and address any organizational, technical, or structural challenges that may arise. This plan also aims to improve security within correctional facilities, reduce the administrative burden, and alleviate the pressure caused by the high volume of visitors.
Furthermore, the memo encourages all officials to motivate families to use the platform by directly communicating with inmates, distributing awareness flyers in visitation areas within the prisons, and providing the platform’s website link (https://ziara.dgapr.gov.ma). These actions aim to facilitate families’ access to visit-related information and reduce the need for them to travel to correctional institutions.
