Amid growing tensions in the healthcare sector in the Fez-Meknes region, the regional office of the National Health Union, under the banner of the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT), issued a strongly-worded statement warning of the dire consequences of ongoing administrative abuses and systemic dysfunctions. The union cautioned that these issues threaten the success of announced reform efforts in this vital sector.
The statement highlighted persistent neglect of healthcare workers’ demands, leading to instability in their professional and personal lives. It emphasized the lack of equity in the distribution of healthcare services and human resources. The statement also criticized the obstinacy of some local officials and their reliance on unilateral decisions, which have further complicated the situation and exacerbated tensions.
The union called for urgent intervention by the regional director of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to defuse the escalating crisis across the region, including in Taza, Meknes, Sefrou, Moulay Yacoub, and Boulemane. It demanded improvements in working conditions, the organization of medical transport operations based on treatment priorities, and the allocation of sufficient human resources to alleviate the burden on ambulance technicians and nurses, particularly in areas suffering from acute staff shortages.
The statement also urged the immediate disbursement of overdue financial entitlements for healthcare workers, the honoring of allowances related to on-call duties and health programs, and the proper organization of final postings for successful candidates in recent recruitment processes. It harshly criticized the latest round of appointments, alleging irregularities, including the allocation of positions that were not originally announced for competition, in violation of legal procedures.
Additionally, the union highlighted the deteriorating practical training conditions for nursing students at the Institutes of Nursing and Health Techniques. It called on the directors of these institutes to enhance training environments, address overcrowding issues, and respond to student demands.
In conclusion, the union commended the efforts of local union branches and called on all healthcare workers to prepare for potential escalatory measures, reaffirming its commitment to defending their rights against mounting challenges.
With the closing message, “No right is lost as long as someone demands it,” the statement delivered a clear warning about the consequences of ignoring the crisis and emphasized the urgent need to establish genuine and effective dialogue channels to save the sector from collapse.
