Hammouchi Strengthens Security Cooperation Between Morocco and Belgium in a Fruitful Working Visit

In a significant move to enhance security relations between Morocco and Belgium, Mr. Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, conducted a working visit to Belgium on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Hammouchi led a high-level security delegation including directors and executives from the central services of the General Directorate of National Security and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance.

Reinforcing Bilateral Cooperation

This visit comes within the framework of the exchange program between security officials of both countries, aiming to strengthen joint cooperation mechanisms in various fields of security and intelligence work. Hammouchi held working sessions and bilateral talks with Mr. Eric Snoeck, Commissioner General of the Belgian Federal Police, where they discussed various security issues of mutual interest.

Addressing Common Security Challenges

Discussions focused on reviewing security challenges and threats posed by terrorist groups and organized crime networks in different regions of the world, including the Sahel, Sahara, Middle East, and Europe. The importance of joint cooperation in facing these threats was emphasized.

Signing a Joint Action Plan

Culminating this visit, Hammouchi and Snoeck signed a joint action plan covering the period 2025-2026. This plan includes a bilateral work program aimed at:

  • Strengthening cooperation in combating organized crime and terrorism
  • Coordinating efforts in processing border crossing data
  • Pursuing internationally wanted persons
  • Cooperating in anti-money laundering efforts
  • Confronting terrorist threats targeting sporting events

This visit reflects the robustness of security relations between Morocco and Belgium, and confirms Morocco’s effective role in international security cooperation. The visit comes shortly after the visit of the General Coordinator of State Security in Belgium, Ms. Francisca Bostyn, to Morocco on November 25, further confirming the continuity and depth of security cooperation between the two countries.
