As part of the UN’s International Days for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, running from November 25 to December 10, 2024, the “Initiatives for Protecting Women’s Rights” Association organized a communication event with professors from the Social Work Institute in Tours, France. This meeting served as an important opportunity for exchanging experiences and insights between stakeholders in the field of women’s rights. Notable contributions came from the association’s president, Asmae Mahdi, and researcher Asmae Snehiji, whose speeches focused on strengthening legal and social efforts to combat violence against women.
In her opening address, Asmae Mahdi emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Moroccan city of Fes and the French city of Tours. She highlighted the significance of the meeting as a chance to exchange experiences between the “Batḥa Center for Women” in Fes and the practices accumulated by the Institute of Training in Tours. Mahdi stressed the need for international partnerships to support and protect women’s rights from violence.
Additionally, Asmae Snehiji, a doctoral researcher in private law, presented a critical review of the 103.13 Law on Combating Violence Against Women. She pointed out that while the law is essential in addressing physical violence against women, it overlooks other significant aspects. Snehiji called for amendments to the legal texts to incorporate these dimensions, which have a profound impact on women’s lives.
