Political sources disclosed that a settlement between Lebanon and Israel has been finalized, with expectations of an official announcement next Wednesday by Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
According to sources, the settlement includes multiple provisions, prominently featuring the election of a president. Sources warned that any violation of the agreement could lead to its collapse and resumption of hostile actions.
US envoy Amos Hochstein recently completed a shuttle diplomacy tour between Beirut and Tel Aviv, leaving Lebanon with a complete draft agreement. Hochstein reported significant progress during his talks with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem indicated that the group submitted observations on the American proposal, noting that the “ball is in the Israeli court.”
These developments follow a year of military tensions, during which the Israeli army conducted ground operations in southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah positions.
