Gaza Displaced Suffer Intensifying Hardships with Rainfall

One year after the October 7, 2023 events, displaced persons in Gaza face catastrophic humanitarian conditions, severely exacerbated by the onset of winter and rainfall.

According to the UN, approximately 1.9 million Palestinians out of 2.4 million total population (9 out of 10 people) have been displaced since the war began. These displaced individuals live in overcrowded camps under dire circumstances.

Rainfall has caused tents to flood and destroy the minimal shelter available to displaced families. Testimonies from displaced individuals reveal profound suffering, with Ahmed Abu Latifa forced to move his family outdoors due to water infiltration, while Amal Salem struggles to protect her elderly, sick mother.

Gaza’s Civil Defense confirmed that displacement camps were flooded, further intensifying thousands of families’ misery. Gaza municipality warned of escalating health and environmental crises due to accumulated debris and blocked drainage systems.

With the ongoing war, casualties have risen to 44,000, predominantly women and children, with 104,008 others injured. The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with severe shortages of clothing, blankets, and adequate shelter.

The Israeli military continues its operations since October 7, 2023, following Hamas’s attack that killed 1,200 Israelis, according to official Israeli statements.
