Constitutional Court Strips Five New Ministers of Parliamentary Membership

The Moroccan Constitutional Court has issued a decision to strip five parliamentary deputies of their membership in the House of Representatives, following their appointment to ministerial positions after the governmental reshuffle that took place last October.

The decision concerns Abdessamad Kayouh, Omar Hajira, Adib Ben Ibrahim, Hicham Sabri, and Lahcen Saadi, who are now in a position of incompatibility with their parliamentary duties that they had acquired following the September 8, 2021 elections.

The Court explained in its decision that this measure comes as part of the commitment to implement constitutional principles and laws governing political life in the Kingdom, which prohibit combining ministerial and parliamentary duties.

This decision represents a practical application of the principle of separation of powers and ensures transparency in political practice, as deputies appointed to government positions must relinquish their parliamentary seats.
