The Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Valencia has announced urgent measures to assist Moroccan citizens residing in Spanish regions affected by devastating floods, particularly in the south of the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the consulate announced that it has set up an emergency phone number (+34 631 935 818) for Moroccan citizens to provide necessary assistance during these exceptional circumstances in the region.
The severe flooding has claimed 70 lives in the Valencia region alone, with two additional deaths reported in the neighboring region of Castilla-La Mancha. The death toll is expected to rise as rescue teams continue searching for dozens of missing persons.
In a related development, King Mohammed VI has instructed the Minister of Interior to contact his Spanish counterpart. During this communication, the Moroccan minister informed his Spanish counterpart that, in accordance with royal instructions, Morocco is fully prepared to dispatch rescue teams and provide all necessary assistance to Spain in dealing with this natural disaster, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior.
The minister also renewed expressions of condolences and solidarity with the Spanish authorities and the families of the victims, according to the same source.
