New Bill Proposed to Regulate Smart App Transportation Services

Members of the Haraki Group in the Moroccan House of Representatives have submitted a bill aimed at regulating and legalizing transportation services through smart applications. This proposal comes in light of technological advancements and the global spread of app-based transportation.

Key points of the proposal:

  • Amending Article 40 of Law No. 52.05 related to the Traffic Code.
  • Requiring drivers of smart app-based transportation vehicles to obtain a professional driver’s card.
  • The administration will issue a professional driver’s card to those who have completed initial qualification training.

The proposal aims to:

  1. Regulate and legalize app-based transportation services.
  2. Resolve conflicts between taxi drivers and smart app drivers.
  3. Facilitate passenger transportation and provide job opportunities for youth.

The Haraki Group believes that regulating these services will help organize the national transportation market and resolve existing issues between concerned parties.

It’s worth noting that this proposal comes against the backdrop of ongoing controversy and intense confrontations in some city streets between taxi drivers and smart app workers.

This law will come into effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette if approved.
