The Executive Committee of the Union of Councils of Member States in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) issued a strong statement at the conclusion of its 52nd session meetings held on Tuesday in Rabat, calling for an immediate halt to Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
The “Rabat Declaration” issued from the meeting emphasized the necessity for ending the aggression to be an entry point for a final and just settlement of the Palestinian issue, enabling the Palestinian people to establish their independent state.
Committee members strongly denounced the acts of killing carried out by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with particular condemnation for the practices of extremist settlers who attack Palestinian citizens’ properties in the West Bank.
The committee urgently appealed to the international community, especially influential powers in international decision-making and the United Nations, to work on:
- Immediately stopping the aggression
- Lifting the siege on Palestinian territories
- Enabling Gaza residents to access food and medicine
- Providing international protection for the Palestinian people
The committee also urged multilateral parliamentary organizations and national parliaments worldwide to pressure Israel to stop its aggression and called for an immediate exchange of prisoners between both parties.
It’s worth noting that the 52nd session of the Executive Committee also discussed various agendas including meetings of specialized standing committees, the Conference of Muslim Parliamentarians, the meeting of the Association of Secretaries-General of Member Councils, in addition to preparations for the 19th Conference of the Union.
This statement is considered an important step within the framework of Islamic diplomatic and parliamentary efforts to support the Palestinian cause and mobilize international support to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression.
