Moroccan athlete Azeddine Nouiri has achieved a new milestone for the Kingdom of Morocco by winning the silver medal in the shot put competition (F34 category) on Saturday during the Paralympic Games currently taking place in the French capital, Paris.
Nouiri secured second place with a throw of 11.70 meters, just one centimeter behind Colombia’s Mauricio Valencia, who won gold with a throw of 11.71 meters. The bronze medal went to Jordan’s Ahmad Hindi with a performance of 11.66 meters.
In a press statement following the competition, Nouiri expressed his hope of gifting Morocco a second gold medal, showing his disappointment at settling for silver by such a narrow margin. Nevertheless, he affirmed his satisfaction with this achievement, which will strengthen Morocco’s position in the medal table.
With this medal, Morocco’s tally in the Games rises to 9 medals: 1 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze. Youssra Karim claimed a silver medal in discus throw (F41 category), Fatima Zahra El Idrissi in the 1500m race (T13 category), and Abdelilah Gani (F53 category) in shot put. The bronze medals were won by Saida Amoudi in shot put (F34 category), Aymane El Haddaoui in the 100m sprint (T47 category), Ayoub Adouich (under 63kg/K44) and Rajae Akermach (over 65kg/K44) in para-taekwondo.
It’s worth noting that this achievement confirms Morocco’s standing in Paralympic sports and strengthens its presence on the international stage in this field.
