The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that an Israeli airstrike targeting a school in the Gaza Strip has resulted in the death of 30 people and injured more than 100 others.
The ministry stated in a press release that “Khadija School, which was housing a temporary medical unit in the Deir al-Balah area, was attacked, leading to the martyrdom of 30 people and injuring more than 100 others.”
The Civil Defense in Gaza reported that the school was sheltering about 4,000 displaced people who had sought refuge there to escape Israeli military operations in the sector.
In contrast, the Israeli army announced in a statement that it carried out an operation in the school targeting “terrorists” who were operating there. The army added that the strike was based on “precise intelligence about terrorists operating in a Hamas complex and control center inside Khadija School.”
In a related context, the Civil Defense in Gaza declared that the ongoing Israeli military operation in Khan Younis since Monday has resulted in the death of about 170 people in the city and its surroundings.
A spokesman for the Civil Defense, Mahmoud Bassal, pointed out that many residents were displaced again on Saturday as the Israeli operation continued in the area, wondering: “Where will these residents go?”
Earlier today, the Israeli army issued new evacuation orders for residents of Khan Younis, days after finding the bodies of five Israelis and warning of new operations.
It’s worth noting that the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported on Friday that more than 180,000 Palestinians have already fled the violent fighting in Khan Younis since the army launched an operation in the area on Monday.
