Le projet de gazoduc Maroc–Nigéria, l’un des plus grands projets énergétiques en Afrique, approche d’une phase décisive avec la signature attendue de l’accord gouvernemental entre les 13 pays partenaires avant la fin de l’année 2026, dans une étape qui renforce la position du Maroc en tant que hub stratégique reliant l’Afrique et l’Europe dans le domaine de l’énergie.
The Morocco–Nigeria gas pipeline project, one of the largest energy projects in Africa, is approaching a decisive phase with the expected signing of the governmental agreement between the 13 partner countries before the end of 2026, in a step that strengthens Morocco’s position as a strategic hub linking Africa and Europe in the energy sector.
La directrice générale de l’Office national des hydrocarbures et des mines (ONHYM), Amina Benkhadra, a confirmé dans des déclarations médiatiques que cet accord attendu constitue un tournant majeur dans le parcours du projet, dont le coût est estimé à environ 25 milliards de dollars, et qui figure parmi les plus grands projets d’infrastructures énergétiques du continent.
The Director General of the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), Amina Benkhadra, confirmed in media statements that this expected agreement represents a major turning point in the project’s path, whose cost is estimated at around 25 billion dollars, and which is considered one of the largest energy infrastructure projects on the continent.
Le gazoduc s’étend sur une distance d’environ 6,900 kilomètres, avec une capacité de transport atteignant 30 milliards de mètres cubes, dont une part importante sera destinée à répondre aux besoins du marché marocain, en plus de l’exportation vers l’Europe, ce qui renforce la position du Royaume en tant que pont énergétique entre les deux continents.
The pipeline extends over a distance of حوالي 6,900 kilometers, with a transport capacity reaching 30 billion cubic meters, where a significant portion will be directed to meet the needs of the Moroccan market, in addition to exports to Europe, which strengthens the Kingdom’s position as an energy bridge between the two continents.
Après la signature de l’accord, il est prévu de mettre en place une structure institutionnelle pour la gestion du projet, à travers la création d’une haute instance de coordination basée à Abuja, chargée des aspects politiques et organisationnels entre les pays participants, ainsi que la création d’une société conjointe à Rabat entre l’Office national des hydrocarbures et des mines et la compagnie pétrolière nigériane, qui sera responsable de la mise en œuvre du projet et de la gestion de son financement et de ses phases techniques.
After the agreement is signed, an institutional structure is expected to be established to manage the project, through the creation of a high-level coordination body based in Abuja, responsible for political and organizational aspects between the participating countries, as well as the creation of a joint company in Rabat between the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines and the Nigerian petroleum company, which will be responsible for implementing the project and managing its financing and technical phases.
Le projet repose sur une approche progressive basée sur sa division en phases indépendantes, ce qui permet d’accélérer sa réalisation et de faciliter la mobilisation des investissements. Les premières phases de connexion entre le Maroc et les champs gaziers en Mauritanie et au Sénégal devraient débuter, avant de compléter la connexion avec les autres pays jusqu’au Nigéria, avec le lancement des premières opérations de pompage de gaz à l’horizon 2031.
The project relies on a gradual approach based on dividing it into independent phases, which allows accelerating its completion and facilitating investment mobilization. The first phases of connection between Morocco and gas fields in Mauritania and Senegal are expected to begin, before completing the connection with other countries up to Nigeria, with the start of the first gas pumping operations expected by 2031.
L’impact de ce projet ne se limite pas au secteur énergétique, mais devrait également constituer un levier économique pour les pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest, en soutenant la production d’électricité et en stimulant les industrial and mining activities, in light of growing interest from international investors in this strategic project.
The impact of this project is not limited to the energy sector, but it is also expected to be an economic lever for West African countries, by supporting electricity production and stimulating industrial and mining activities, in light of increasing interest from international investors in this strategic project.
