During the past weekend, security teams at Tangier Ibn Battouta International Airport thwarted two separate drug trafficking attempts by seizing over 15 kilograms of cannabis resin (hashish) hidden in the luggage of two passengers of Sub-Saharan origin holding European nationalities.
According to security sources, control officers detected suspicious materials while the bags passed through the X-ray scanners, prompting a thorough manual search. This led to the discovery of numerous packages of cannabis resin tightly wrapped in adhesive tape, cleverly concealed in the corners of the two travelers’ suitcases.
The two individuals were immediately arrested and handed over to the Tangier Regional Judicial Police Brigade, which launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of this attempt, identify any potential accomplices, and trace the network behind this international trafficking.
Authorities stressed the continued vigilance at the Kingdom’s airports, which frequently witness attempts to smuggle drugs destined for Europe. This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by Moroccan security services to combat drug trafficking and organized transnational crime.
