On the morning of Monday, July 14, the residents of “Lklat” village, part of the Sidi Youssef Ben Ahmed commune in the Sefrou province, staged a peaceful protest march towards the city of Fez. They expressed their deep frustration and condemnation of the severe shortage of drinking water that increasingly threatens their lives day by day, especially amid the intense heatwave affecting the region.
The march included men, women, and children of various ages, who voiced strong dissatisfaction with the complete absence of the commune’s president and the lack of any communication or concrete initiatives from local and regional officials to address the crisis. Despite the worsening situation over recent months and numerous appeals by the residents to the responsible authorities, no tangible response has been received.
The protesters demanded urgent and effective intervention to provide a reliable supply of drinking water and ensure its continuity, stressing that the current situation is unbearable and endangers their health and lives amid the absence of clear solutions from the officials.
The water crisis in “Lklat” village reflects the broader struggles faced by many rural areas suffering from severe deficiencies in basic services, highlighting the urgent need for swift action by the concerned authorities to prevent further deterioration.
