Casablanca: 17 Arrests, Including Minors, Following Wydad-FAR Football Match Riot

Casablanca: The security operations carried out by the Casablanca Police Headquarters on the sidelines of the football match between the Wydad Casablanca and Royal Armed Forces (FAR) teams on Saturday evening, May 3rd, resulted in the arrest of seventeen individuals, including five minors.

These arrests were made on suspicion of the individuals’ involvement in acts of violence related to sports hooliganism, causing material damage to public property, and violence against public officials while on duty.

These security interventions were implemented in several phases, encompassing the period before the match, during the game itself, and during the final dispersal of the spectators. These operations led to the apprehension of the suspects on charges related to drug use and possession, possession of bladed weapons, mutual violence, possession of firecrackers and flares, as well as some of them pelting law enforcement with stones, resulting in injuries to members of the public forces.

In a related context, proactive security interventions carried out before the match resulted in the apprehension of 104 unaccompanied minors in the vicinity of the stadium. These minors were subjected to procedures for handover to their legal guardians.

The Casablanca Police Headquarters indicated that the arrested adults have been placed in police custody, while the detained minors have been placed under surveillance measures. These actions aim to deepen the investigation and inquiry to uncover all the circumstances, details, and backgrounds surrounding this case, and to identify and apprehend the remaining individuals involved and contributing to the commission of these criminal acts. Investigations and inquiries are continuing at full speed to achieve this objective.
