Younes Majahd Announces Legal Action Against Slimane Raissouni Over Defamation Claims

Younes Majahd, President of the National Press Council, announced his intention to take legal action against journalist Slimane Raissouni following what he described as “false accusations that damaged his reputation and the reputation of his late mother.”

The case stems from a post Raissouni shared on his Facebook account, in which he claimed that Majahd’s mother had spoken to lawyer Abdelaziz Al-Nouidi after his release and told him that the villa owned by her son had been a gift from former Interior Minister Idriss Basri.

In response to these claims, Majahd clarified that his mother passed away in 2008, had never known Al-Nouidi, and had never spoken to him. He asserted that these statements were “completely unfounded.”

Majahd further stated that he possesses official documents confirming that the villa was purchased with a bank loan and expressed his willingness to present these documents in front of the witnesses mentioned by Raissouni or any independent human rights body.

The President of the National Press Council emphasized that these accusations “directly harm his reputation and the reputation of his family,” considering that “such irresponsible behavior requires a legal response.” He affirmed that he had decided to seek justice through legal channels to put an end to what he described as a “smear campaign.”
