Government’s Focus on Social State Reforms: A Key Pillar for Sustainable Development

During the weekly press briefing following the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, November 28, 2024, the government spokesperson highlighted the critical importance of the social state initiative, emphasizing that it is a central pillar in Morocco’s development trajectory. He confirmed that the government continues to work diligently and with a new spirit of reform to implement this policy, which aligns with the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The spokesperson pointed out that the social state initiative represents a natural and logical step in Morocco’s evolution, following major political, constitutional, and human rights reforms, such as the Family Code and the 2011 Constitution. These reforms, along with significant progress in economic reforms, have enabled Morocco to make tangible advances in vital sectors like industry, agriculture, and tourism, which have contributed to boosting the country’s GDP and comprehensively developing national infrastructure.

He further explained that the social state aims to enable citizens to directly benefit from the fruits of these policies by improving healthcare services, strengthening social protection networks, and enhancing the quality of life. The spokesperson praised the recent report from the Economic, Social, and Environmental Council, which commended the government’s efforts in expanding basic health coverage, noting that this initiative has achieved unprecedented results, covering about 85% of Moroccan citizens.

The spokesperson emphasized that the government is closely following the directives of His Majesty the King, stressing the importance of continuously monitoring and reviewing social policies to ensure their positive impact on citizens’ lives, especially amid global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and inflationary pressures.

In conclusion, the government spokesperson reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to advancing the goals of the social state initiative, recognizing it as a national responsibility and a necessity for ensuring social justice and achieving sustainable development in Morocco.
