On Sunday, November 24, 2024, the Saadians Stadiums in Akdal District, Fes, hosted a vibrant sports day commemorating the 49th anniversary of the Green March and the 69th anniversary of Morocco’s Independence Day. Organized by the Akdal District Council, the event combined athletic competition with a celebration of national pride, drawing a large turnout of athletes and spectators alike.
The day kicked off with the 7th edition of the Junior Football League, featuring 32 teams representing various active sports associations across Fes. The tournament witnessed intense competition throughout the morning and concluded with Morocco Sports Club Fes clinching the top spot, followed by Mohammed VI Academy in second place, Bab Al-Fotouh Academy in third, and Aqsibi Academy in fourth.
In the afternoon, the stadiums hosted an exhibition match between veteran players of Morocco Sports Club Fes and Wydad Sports Club Fes. This nostalgic encounter brought back fond memories of Fes’s golden era in football and ended with a symbolic tribute to legendary players from both teams.
Among those honored were Hassan Al-Jamii, Tijani Al-Azizi, and Al-Muhiti Abdelaziz from Wydad Sports Club, and Abdessalam Bono, Idriss Karami, and Haj Atik Abdelwahab from Morocco Sports Club.
The events, overseen by Mr. Mohamed Slimani Al-Houti Al-Hassani, President of the Akdal District Council, alongside his deputies and council members, were graced by the attendance of numerous prominent figures, including members of the Fes Medina District Council, sports personalities, and media representatives.
The activities were organized in partnership with the Fez-Meknes Regional Football League and coordinated by the Akdal District Sports Affairs Department.
Sunday’s sports day was not merely a celebration of athleticism but also a platform for fostering a sense of national belonging and showcasing the role of sports in bridging generational gaps, inspired by the unity and solidarity symbolized by these two national occasions.
