In a move reflecting continued American support for Morocco’s stance on the Sahara issue, Barbara Leaf, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, reaffirmed today, Friday, November 22, the United States’ endorsement of Morocco’s autonomy initiative. Leaf described the plan as a “serious, credible, and realistic solution” to the Western Sahara conflict.
This statement was made during a press conference following her meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. The discussions covered various topics of mutual interest, including bilateral coordination on regional and global priorities and ways to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
