“Pink October” Campaign: Doctors Urge Women to Prioritize Early Breast Cancer Screening

As part of the “Pink October” campaign aimed at raising awareness about the importance of early breast cancer detection, Professor Moulay Abdelilah Malhouf, Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hassan II University Hospital in Fes, and Dr. Yassine Belhaj, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Fes, delivered guiding speeches to encourage women to undergo regular check-ups.

Professor Malhouf emphasized the significance of early diagnosis through regular breast cancer screening, delivering a powerful message: “October is here, have you seen your doctor yet?” He explained that early detection dramatically increases the chances of recovery, urging women to overcome the fear of the word “cancer.”

He highlighted that some women wait until the cancer becomes visibly noticeable, making treatment more challenging in terms of psychological, financial, and medical aspects.

Professor Malhouf encouraged women to undergo regular screenings and not hesitate to visit a doctor, adding, “Doctors and health centers are always open to receive women for screenings and provide necessary support.”

Dr. Yassine Belhaj noted that October presents a golden opportunity to raise awareness about early detection, with intensive medical campaigns taking place in hospitals and health centers across the city.

He added, “Breast self-examination is the first step, and every woman can do it at home. If there are any changes or concerns, they should immediately visit the nearest hospital for a specialized screening.”

Dr. Belhaj also mentioned that diagnostic centers, such as those in Ain Cheggaf and Hassan II University Hospital, offer all necessary tests, including mammograms and additional screenings to ensure proper diagnosis.

He stressed that early detection allows for the treatment of tumors at an early stage, greatly increasing the chances of recovery while preserving the breast.

With breast cancer cases still being discovered at advanced stages, doctors continue to advocate for early diagnosis as the best preventive measure.

Both Professor Malhouf and Dr. Belhaj highlighted that fear of screening can worsen the situation, calling on all women to participate in these preventive campaigns to protect themselves and achieve higher recovery rates.
