In a significant step reflecting the stability of political institutions in Morocco, Mr. Mohamed Ould El Rashid, representing the Istiqlal Party, was elected President of the House of Councillors for the second half of the 2021-2027 legislative term on Saturday.
The session was chaired by the interim head of the House of Councillors, Mahmoud Arshan, in accordance with Article 63 of the Moroccan Constitution.
The voting results clearly demonstrated the dominance of Mr. Ould El Rashid, who was the sole candidate for the presidency on behalf of the majority. He received 94 votes out of 104 cast, while there were 10 invalid ballots.
