Transparency reports issued by Meta have revealed an increase in government requests for user data, raising concerns about the risks associated with using anonymous accounts on social media platforms.
In Morocco, the number of government data requests submitted to Meta reached 471 in 2022, with 469 requests made through standard legal procedures and 2 in emergency situations.
These requests targeted 516 accounts, and some data was provided in response to 37.58% of the requests.
These figures highlight a rise in cybercrimes, including fraud, defamation, and online bullying. Experts warn about the dangers of using anonymous accounts, which can facilitate illegal activities and lead to serious legal consequences.
Meta urges users to exercise caution when using its platforms and adhere to ethical standards to avoid legal issues and protect their privacy and personal security.
