New Measures from the Ministry of Higher Education to Support Students Discontinued from Medical Schools

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation has announced a series of exceptional measures to support students who have been discontinued from medical schools.

This initiative comes as part of the mediation efforts undertaken by the Mediator of the Kingdom. The ministry clarified that no agreement has yet been reached with representatives of some affected students.

The measures include allowing students who passed the first-semester exams on September 5, 2024, to complete their second-semester exams, with a special extraordinary session scheduled to begin on October 4, 2024.

The ministry also confirmed that students taking the exam for the first time will be permitted to sit for the second-semester exams in this session, along with the option to retake the first-semester exams in another extraordinary session to be announced later by the colleges.

Additionally, the measures will include compensating zero points with the scores obtained in the extraordinary exam sessions for the affected students.

Exam results will be reviewed for registration in subsequent years, taking into account the points obtained in both regular and extraordinary sessions, without the need to complete the practical training, which will be organized later according to its timetable and passing conditions.

Regarding the start of the 2024-2025 academic year, the ministry has set Monday, September 23, 2024, for new students enrolled in the first year, and Monday, October 14, 2024, for students in other levels.

Furthermore, the ministry will provide additional explanations regarding the new educational organization for medical training through wide-ranging meetings of the educational committees derived from the college councils, involving students to ensure improvements in their reception mechanisms.
