The Moroccan Bar Association submitted a report to the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, August 28, to initiate legal proceedings against Algerian journalist Mehdi Ghezzar from RMC radio, following his recent anti-Semitic and defamatory remarks against Morocco.
Details of the Report
After being expelled from the “Les Grandes Gueules” program on RMC, it seems that Mehdi Ghezzar is still facing consequences for his statements. The Bar Association highlighted in its report that Ghezzar’s comments “constitute an attack on the honor of the Kingdom of Morocco” and “encourage racial hatred and incite discrimination, in accordance with the provisions of the law of July 29, 1881 on press freedom.”
Offensive Statements
The association, led by lawyer Mourad Elajouti, noted that Ghezzar made offensive remarks during an appearance on the Algerian channel AL24 News on August 25, where he stated that “the Moroccan people have no right to express their discontent or solidarity with the Palestinian people, by royal decree,” adding that “this is forbidden, and they risk imprisonment.”
Anti-Semitic Accusations
In addition to these defamatory remarks, the association emphasized Ghezzar’s anti-Semitic statements, where he endorsed claims made by the AL24 News host, falsely asserting that King Mohammed VI’s advisor, André Azoulay, was the initiator of this supposed decree, incorrectly stating that he is Israeli.
Harsh Criticism
Ghezzar further claimed that “Morocco is a country that feeds on Zionist lies,” accusing the kingdom of being “controlled by a Zionist regime,” while Algeria, according to him, “resists Zionist dictates.”
Reactions
These statements come at a time when relations between Morocco and Algeria have been tense, and public figures in France have condemned Ghezzar’s remarks, calling for action against him. The management of RMC radio announced that it had decided to terminate Ghezzar’s participation in the program due to his unacceptable comments.

The Moroccan Bar Association emphasizes the need for a transparent investigation to determine responsibilities and hold accountable those involved in these statements that endanger the lives of citizens.
