KENITRA, Morocco – Moroccan police have successfully foiled a significant drug trafficking operation in the city of Kenitra, as part of their ongoing efforts to combat illicit drug trade.
Security sources reported that the operation took place in the early hours of Tuesday, August 13th, in coordination between the Kenitra Security Province Police and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance. The operation resulted in the arrest of two individuals, aged 29 and 31.
The suspects were apprehended at a toll station on the highway, immediately after arriving in a car from one of the northern cities of the kingdom. During the search operation, police discovered 2,563 medical tablets of the narcotic type “Rivotril” in their possession, along with a sum of money suspected to be proceeds from this criminal activity.
The suspects have been placed under custody pending the judicial investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor’s office. The investigation aims to identify potential extensions of this criminal network and arrest any other individuals involved in this operation.
This successful operation reflects the vigilance of Moroccan security agencies and their ability to counter drug trafficking operations. It also underscores the importance of cooperation between various security departments in combating this scourge that threatens the health and security of society.
It is worth noting that Morocco continues to strengthen its efforts in fighting illicit trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances through intensifying security operations and developing monitoring and tracking mechanisms.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing drug trafficking, particularly the smuggling of prescription drugs for illicit use. The seizure of Rivotril, a brand name for clonazepam, points to a growing trend in the abuse of prescription medications.
The operation also demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between different branches of Moroccan law enforcement, showcasing their ability to intercept drug shipments along major transportation routes.
As the investigation continues, authorities are likely to focus on uncovering the broader network involved in this operation, potentially leading to further arrests and disruption of drug trafficking channels in the region.
