Morocco’s health union coordination announced the start of a nationwide strike starting today, Monday, July 22, which is scheduled to last until next Friday.
The strike is an expression of the anger of workers in the sector, demanding better working conditions and the implementation of agreements with the government.
The strike includes all health institutions nationwide, with the exception of resuscitation and emergency departments, and workers will organize a protest in front of the parliament building on Thursday.
In a joint statement, the union coordination held the prime minister responsible for any negative impact the strike could have on healthcare services for citizens.
The statement explained that the union coordination submitted a detailed response to the government’s proposals to implement the agreements, but they have not received any response so far, prompting them to take the decision to go on strike.
The union coordination also announced its intention to escalate its protest steps if their demands continue to be ignored by the government.
The main demands of the workers include improving wages, providing better working conditions, implementing an early retirement system, and opening a serious dialog with the government to resolve their issues.
The strike reflects the escalating tension between health workers and the government, amid increasing pressure on the Kingdom’s basic health services.
