On Monday, July 1, 2024, the 36th edition of the International University Theater Festival kicked off in Casablanca under the theme “Theater and Madness.” The opening ceremony was held at the Moulay Rachid Cultural Complex, under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
This cultural event is organized by the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences Ben M’Sik of Hassan II University, with the support of several official and private entities. The opening was attended by a number of prominent figures, including the Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region and the President of Hassan II University.
Dr. Hussein Azdouq, President of Hassan II University, stated that this festival is a space for openness and cultural exchange, and a diplomatic school that presents a bright image of Morocco.
The festival’s activities include theatrical performances from various parts of the world, in addition to a symposium on the relationship between theater and madness. Prominent figures in the media and art fields, including the journalist Fadila Anwar and artists Abdel Haq Zarwali and Ezz El Arab Kaghat, will be honored.
The festival aims to enhance the formative and outreach role of Moroccan universities and strengthen cultural ties between Morocco and various countries around the world. It also seeks to support cultural and artistic industries and help young people integrate into the job market.
The festival continues to embody the cultural project of the Ben M’Sik Faculty of Letters since its establishment in 1984, serving as an important platform for cultural and artistic exchange at the international level.
