The French magazine “Jeune Afrique” revealed in a recent report that Abdellatif Hamouchi, Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, occupies a prominent position in the field of counter-terrorism at the global level.
The magazine highlighted that Hamouchi is one of the few recognised experts in countering terrorist movements, noting that his expertise is used daily to neutralise terrorist cells within Morocco, and is in international demand by countries facing terrorist threats.
The magazine highlighted Hamouchi’s official visit to France from 26 to 28 June, considering it a strong indicator of the improvement of bilateral relations between Paris and Rabat after a period of tension. The magazine did not rule out that the visit is linked to France’s desire to benefit from Hamouchi’s expertise in securing the Olympic Games scheduled between 26 July and 11 August.
The visit reflects the quality of the current security cooperation between Morocco and France in the areas of combating crime, human and drug trafficking, according to Jeune Afrique. During the visit, Hammouchi held talks with his counterparts in the French national police, internal and external security services, centred on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in security fields of common interest.
This report highlights the important role played by Morocco in the fight against terrorism and the international standing of Moroccan security officials in this field.
