The US State Department has announced its approval of a major deal to supply HIMARS missile systems to Morocco to Morocco, according to informed media sources.
The deal includes the delivery of 18 HIMARS launchers, equipped with a variety of missiles, including ATACMS missiles with a range of about 300 kilometers.
The move, announced by the Pentagon, received the final approval from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency to notify Congress. The value of the deal, estimated at $524 million, is among the most important military deals due to the importance of the ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles, which are characterized by their high accuracy and long range.
Developed by Lockheed Martin, the HIMARS is a versatile system capable of firing many different types of missiles, including Global Positioning System (GPS)-guided missiles and Artillery Tactical Rocket Artillery Missiles (ATACMS).
These deliveries are expected to contribute to strengthening the defense capabilities of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and enhancing its ability to deal with regional security challenges.
