Police officers from the regional security district in the city of Berkane, yesterday, Tuesday, arrested two individuals, one of whom is Lebanese, on suspicion of their involvement in a case related to attacking digital data processing systems and hacking phone calls.
Initial investigations indicate that the suspects are involved in hacking into national telecommunications networks using a criminal technique that includes electronic equipment to divert international calls to local ones, exploiting this to make illegal profits from the tariff difference between the two types of calls.
The search and seizure operation carried out in the framework of this case resulted in the confiscation of wireless devices and four mobile phones, in addition to dozens of SIM cards, electronic and IT equipment that were used in this criminal activity.
The suspects were placed in custody pending the judicial investigation being carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to uncover all the circumstances, details and backgrounds of this case, as well as to arrest the rest of the participants and contributors to this criminal activity.
