Boulemane – Amid growing water stress and a sharp decline in resources, the headquarters of the Province of Boulemane hosted a communication meeting bringing together the Provincial Governor with representatives of the Regional Multi-Service Company and the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), alongside elected officials and civil society actors. The meeting aimed to present the current situation of drinking water supply and the measures adopted to address recorded constraints, particularly in the city of Missour.

During the meeting, technical data were presented indicating that rainfall during the current season did not exceed 36 mm. This led to a drop in well productivity from 10 liters per second to only 3 liters per second, with an estimated deficit of around 32%. Officials stressed that these indicators reflect the scale of pressure on water resources in the province amid consecutive years of drought.

In response, participants emphasized that the measures currently in place are of an emergency nature to ensure continuity of supply within available capacities, pending completion of the connection project from the Hassan II Dam. Works on this project have reportedly reached about 80% completion and are expected to significantly improve the situation in the coming period.
It was also announced that the water treatment plant in Missour has entered into service, a step intended to enhance production capacity and improve supply regularity, particularly for neighborhoods experiencing low water pressure. This is accompanied by a network restructuring program aimed at increasing efficiency from 70% to 80%, along with the adoption of technical solutions to address the issue of water not reaching certain residential floors.

This meeting comes amid growing engagement around the water issue in the province. Previously, the Missour branch of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights had issued a statement condemning what it described as repeated drinking water cuts, particularly during the first days of Ramadan, and had called for a protest to demand regular supply.
At that time, no detailed official clarification had been issued regarding the causes of the interruptions or the measures taken. The recent meeting, however, emphasized a commitment to communication and openness in addressing the challenges raised.
The Provincial Governor underscored the importance of continuous communication and transparency in managing this vital file, calling for collective mobilization and rational water consumption as a shared responsibility among all stakeholders and residents.
Provincial officials are counting on the completion of planned projects and improved network efficiency to overcome the current phase, with the objective of restoring regular supply and ensuring sustainable resource management.
The newspaper affirms that it will publish any additional clarifications or information issued by the concerned authorities or civil society actors upon receipt, in respect of the right of reply and balanced reporting.
