The Moroccan Association of Sports Journalists sent an official letter to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), following the events that accompanied the final match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, hosted by Morocco.
L’Association marocaine des journalistes sportifs a adressé une correspondance officielle à la Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football, à la Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) et à la Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), à la suite des événements ayant accompagné la finale de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations 2025, organisée au Maroc.

In a statement issued by its executive bureau, the association explained that the match witnessed incidents it described as “serious,” including acts of violence, vandalism, and physical assaults in the vicinity of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, which sparked widespread reactions at both the national and international levels.
Dans un communiqué publié par son bureau exécutif, l’association a indiqué que la rencontre a été marquée par des faits qualifiés de « graves », notamment des actes de violence, de vandalisme et des agressions physiques aux abords du complexe sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah à Rabat, suscitant de vives réactions au niveau national et international.

The statement noted that among the scenes that stirred controversy was the withdrawal of the Senegalese national team from the pitch, the resulting suspension of the match, as well as reports of assaults on security personnel and journalists, and the vandalism of several facilities and pieces of equipment made available for this continental event.
Le communiqué a relevé, parmi les scènes ayant suscité la controverse, le retrait de la sélection sénégalaise de la pelouse, l’interruption du match qui s’en est suivie, ainsi que des agressions contre des éléments des forces de l’ordre et des journalistes, en plus de la dégradation de plusieurs installations et équipements mis à disposition de cet événement continental.

The Moroccan Association of Sports Journalists also expressed its regret over what it described as “provocative and irresponsible statements” made by the Senegalese national team coach, considering that they directly harmed the reputation of Moroccan organization and the Confederation of African Football, and constituted a violation of sporting ethics and the rules governing official press conferences.
L’Association marocaine des journalistes sportifs a également exprimé son regret face à ce qu’elle a qualifié de « déclarations provocatrices et irresponsables » émanant de l’entraîneur de la sélection sénégalaise, estimant qu’elles ont porté atteinte de manière directe à la réputation de l’organisation marocaine et à celle de la Confédération Africaine de Football, et qu’elles constituent une violation de l’éthique sportive et des règles encadrant les conférences de presse officielles.

The statement further indicated that several neighborhoods in the cities of Rabat and Casablanca witnessed acts of vandalism targeting property and commercial premises, attributed to individuals allegedly linked to the Senegalese community residing in Morocco, considering that such acts represent a threat to public security and social peace.
Le communiqué a ajouté que plusieurs quartiers des villes de Rabat et de Casablanca ont connu des actes de vandalisme visant des biens et des commerces, attribués à des individus supposément affiliés à la communauté sénégalaise résidant au Maroc, estimant que ces actes constituent une menace pour la sécurité publique et la paix sociale.

Based on the above, the Moroccan Association of Sports Journalists called for the opening of an urgent international investigation by FIFA and CAF into the circumstances surrounding these events and the conduct of the Senegalese team’s technical staff, urging the application of disciplinary sanctions provided for under the regulations in force.
Sur la base de ce qui précède, l’Association marocaine des journalistes sportifs a appelé à l’ouverture d’une enquête internationale urgente par la FIFA et la CAF sur les circonstances de ces événements et le comportement du staff technique de la sélection sénégalaise, en réclamant l’application des sanctions disciplinaires prévues par la réglementation en vigueur.

The association also stressed the need to adopt measures ensuring the protection of Moroccan fans both inside and outside the country, and to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future, while emphasizing the importance of defending Morocco’s image, which, according to the statement, presented an organizational model that received wide acclaim during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
L’association a également insisté sur la nécessité de prendre des mesures garantissant la protection des supporters marocains à l’intérieur comme à l’extérieur du pays, et de prévenir la répétition de tels dérapages à l’avenir, tout en soulignant l’importance de défendre l’image du Maroc, qui, selon le communiqué, a offert un modèle d’organisation largement salué lors de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations 2025.

The Moroccan Association of Sports Journalists concluded its statement by affirming that what occurred goes beyond a football match, touching upon the dignity of a country, the stature of a continental competition, and the future of African football, while expressing confidence in the response of international football bodies to these demands.
