Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui described the semi-final showdown between the Moroccan national team and Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 as a “final before the final,” given the stature of both teams and the level of competition expected.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Regragui said reaching the semi-finals marks an important milestone for Morocco after a long absence from this stage, noting that the challenge will be significant against a Nigerian side renowned for its organization and collective strength. He added that the objective is clear: to win and secure a place in the final.
The national coach emphasized that Nigeria boast quality individuals and a strong bench, which requires the Atlas Lions to approach the match with maximum mental focus and to avoid conceding space or moments of respite that could allow the opponent to impose their technical and physical rhythm. He described the encounter as a true test of both teams’ capabilities.
Regragui also pointed out that Morocco’s performances have improved progressively since the group stage, highlighting the technical staff’s work to prepare several players—including Hamza Igamane, Achraf Hakimi, and Brahim Díaz—to reach peak readiness at this decisive phase of the tournament.
He noted that the semi-final of this edition is among the strongest in the competition’s history, given the presence of players who have previously won the African Footballer of the Year award, considering this level a true reflection of the growth and quality of African football.
For his part, goalkeeper Munir El Kajoui expressed satisfaction at reaching the semi-finals, describing it as a long-awaited achievement. He confirmed that the team has prepared thoroughly on all fronts to deliver a performance worthy of the occasion.
Munir added that the players are mentally, physically, and tactically ready to face one of the continent’s strongest teams, stressing that everyone understands the importance of this match as a decisive step toward the final and closer to the continental title.
