A three-union coordination body within the Ministry of Equipment and Water has announced the launch of a symbolic protest action starting Tuesday, January 6, 2026, and lasting for three weeks. The action consists of wearing red armbands inside workplaces, as an expression of professional demands related to the ministry’s legal and regulatory framework.
This coordination brings together the Democratic Confederation of Labour (CDT), the Moroccan Labour Union (UMT), and the National Union of Labour in Morocco (UNTM), according to a joint statement which emphasized that this step falls within a gradual protest program aimed at drawing attention to a number of long-standing unresolved issues.
According to the same source, employees are calling for the adoption of a specific basic statute for the Ministry of Equipment and Water that, in their view, would ensure wage equity and improved allowances, while putting an end to irregularities related to their distribution. The demands also include clarifying the future of the basic statute governing River Basin Agencies, ensuring the proper implementation of the transformation of the General Directorate of Meteorology into a public institution, as well as revising the legal framework and internal regulations of the Public Works Social Welfare Institution.
The union coordination stressed that the choice of this protest format takes into account the specificity of the current climatic conditions, given the vital roles played by the ministry’s services, particularly in weather forecasting and field interventions related to flood management, snowfall, and ensuring the continuity of traffic on road networks.
In concluding its statement, the coordination expressed its determination to continue defending workers’ demands through escalating protest actions, while emphasizing the need to combine practical proposals with responsible dialogue, with the aim of reaching what it described as a “fair” basic statute that takes into account the nature of the duties and responsibilities borne by employees in the sector.
