Local stakeholders in Douar Beni Marwa, part of the Dar El Hamra commune in Sefrou Province, have voiced concern over what they describe as a situation of “thirst and isolation” affecting residents, due to the absence of connections to drinking water and electricity networks—conditions that create daily hardships and undermine decent living standards.
Local sources report that residents have long been forced to travel long distances to obtain water, particularly during periods of drought and high temperatures. This situation, they say, places a heavy burden on households and negatively affects health and social stability, especially for women and children.
The same stakeholders added that the lack of electricity further deepens the area’s isolation and limits opportunities for local development. It also affects students’ schooling and small-scale agricultural activities, prompting calls on the relevant authorities to include the douar in basic rural supply programs and to accelerate on-the-ground interventions.
In the same context, the Ras El Oued Association for Water and Development condemned the conditions endured by the residents of Douar Beni Marwa, considering that the continued absence of essential services exacerbates suffering and entrenches vulnerability in rural areas. In a letter addressed to the Wali of the Fes–Meknes region, the association called for directives to be issued for the Regional Multi-Service Company to intervene and provide practical, urgent solutions to supply the douar with water and electricity, ensuring a minimum standard of decent living for residents.
According to local speakers, the community’s demands fall within the framework of the right to access basic services, while affirming their readiness to coordinate with all stakeholders to achieve sustainable solutions that take into account the specificities of the province’s rural areas.
