In the presence of high-profile officials, Fès–Meknès bets on an “integrated textile ecosystem” and thousands of jobs

As a follow-up to yesterday’s developments, the city of Fès hosted on Wednesday the official launch ceremony of a new industrial project involving the establishment of EUWEN TEXTILES, a subsidiary of China’s Sunrise Group. The initiative is being presented as a qualitative addition to Morocco’s textile industry and a potential lever to strengthen the investment appeal of the Fès–Meknès region.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour said the project is expected to raise national production capacity in the textile sector, noting that the new unit could help triple production capacity. He also cited projections of around 3,000 direct jobs, in addition to nearly 1,500 indirect jobs.

According to the announced figures, the total investment amounts to about MAD 1.4 billion, over an area of approximately 20 hectares. The industrial unit is set to include an integrated production chain—from yarn and fabric manufacturing through printing and garment production—within a single ecosystem.

The minister added that Morocco’s textile sector generates an annual turnover of around MAD 60 billion and provides jobs for roughly 42,000 employees registered with the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), considering the new project part of the major investments expected to support the sector’s competitiveness nationally.

Official statements also said the project is aligned with sustainability goals through the use of renewable energy and water reuse, alongside modern technologies. More than 80% of output is expected to be destined for export, while also meeting part of domestic market needs.

For his part, the Wali of the Fès–Meknès region and Governor of Fès Prefecture, Khalid Ait Taleb, said the launch falls within the region’s economic and industrial take-off momentum and relies on productive investment as a driver of territorial development and sustainable job creation. He noted that the region benefits from multiple assets, infrastructure, and human capital, with the mobilization of institutional and economic stakeholders.

He added that approved private investments in the Fès–Meknès region reached—by mid-December 2025—about MAD 18 billion, contributing to the creation of more than 18,000 jobs, according to figures presented during the ceremony.

The launch was attended by Karim Zidane, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, as well as Cecilia Liu, Business Development Director at EUWEN TEXTILES, alongside the President of the Fès–Meknès Regional Council, the Governor of Moulay Yacoub Province, and several economic actors.

Fes News will continue to follow this file, pending more detailed information on implementation timelines, recruitment and training programs linked to the project, and its direct impact on the local labor market and the region’s textile value chain.
