Judicial police services under the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) have opened judicial investigations, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutors’ offices, into acts suspected of being linked to ticket scalping for Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matches currently taking place in Morocco, according to consistent security sources.
The same sources indicated that cyber-monitoring units of the National Security services detected posts on social media platforms offering match tickets for sale through illegal methods, prompting the launch of a technical and field investigation process to identify those potentially involved.
Technical analyses and field inquiries led to the identification of several suspects, followed by security operations that resulted in the arrest of eight individuals suspected of involvement in these activities. The arrests were carried out in Rabat, Temara, Agadir, Salé, Marrakech, and Mohammedia, according to the same sources.
The detained individuals were placed under judicial investigation procedures under the supervision of the competent public prosecutors, with the aim of determining the circumstances and background of the cases. Investigations remain ongoing to apprehend other individuals suspected of involvement in similar acts, security sources added.
