His Majesty the King Establishes December 9 as a National Day for Mediation in Public Services

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, has given his royal assent to designate December 9 of each year as a National Day for Mediation in Public Services, according to a statement from the Institution of the Ombudsman.

This date was chosen because it coincides with the anniversary of the establishment of the Institution of the Ombudsman in 2001 under Royal Decree No. 1.01.298. It holds deep symbolic significance in the field of human rights and strengthens the connection to the royal mission announced by His Majesty the King, may God protect him, when creating this institution, while celebrating the date of the founding decree.

This royal initiative reflects His Majesty’s special care for the institutional role of mediation in consolidating the principles of justice and fairness. It represents an additional step in the ongoing process to promote a culture of mediation in public services, starting with the establishment of the Ombudsman by royal will, through the expansion of its powers and jurisdiction, to its constitutional recognition as one of the independent bodies protecting human rights and as a national institution for good governance that contributes to the establishment of the rule of law and the enhancement of ethics and transparency in managing public facilities.

This national day will serve as an annual occasion to highlight the benefits of institutional mediation and provide a national platform to launch broad public discussions about best practices and comparative experiences in the field of mediation. It will also offer an opportunity to appreciate the efforts made and formulate proposals and recommendations that contribute to strengthening the foundations of citizen-centered administration based on justice and fairness, the Ombudsman’s statement adds.

This royal decree confirms once again His Majesty the King’s commitment to establishing effective mechanisms to protect citizens’ rights and improve the quality of public services within the framework of Morocco’s strategic vision of a modern democratic state.
