From ‘Boulemane’ in the heart of the Atlas Mountains to the capital of the port city… Salé erects a bridge for Moroccan saffron

Fez News – Territorial Products and Rural Development

Salé – The activities of the fourth edition of the Erzfrane Serghineh Saffron Festival concluded on Saturday evening, November 15, 2025, hosted by the city of Salé for the first time after three consecutive editions in the original saffron homeland of Serghineh (Boulemane Province). The transfer of the festival to the administrative capital came under the slogan “A Bridge Between the Rural World and the City,” to affirm its fundamental message: connecting local producers with research centers, marketing, and urban consumption.

The edition was organized by the Erzfrane Serghineh Association in partnership with the REMESS network and ES.Maroc, and with support from:

  • ESSEC Business School – African Campus
  • BMCI Group
  • Crédit Agricole du Maroc
  • Maroc Bio Foundation
  • Domaine Erzane

Highlights of the Program

  • Scientific symposiums on saffron cultivation and aromatic and medicinal plants with participation from national and international researchers and experts.
  • Specialized training workshops for more than 20 cooperatives from various regions of the Kingdom (Taounate, Taza, Chefchaouen, Ouarzazate…) in the fields of good production, quality, packaging, and marketing.
  • A large exhibition of territorial products featuring saffron and its derivatives alongside honey, argan oil, roses, and medicinal herbs.
  • Spaces for communication between producers, students, entrepreneurs, and investors.

Statement by Association President Hafida Mqadiri

“Moving the festival to Salé is a strategic step to break the barrier between producing areas and major cities, and to highlight that saffron is not just a rural product, but a national wealth that must reach every Moroccan home and global markets with high quality and modern marketing, while preserving its Amazigh and heritage identity.”

The festival concluded with artistic performances of Middle Atlas Ahidous, in a powerful symbolic message combining the scent of saffron and the rhythm of heritage in the heart of the city.

With this edition, the Erzfrane Serghineh Festival confirms its position as a true national platform for valorizing Moroccan red gold, and as an actual bridge between village and city, between production and consumption, and between heritage and modernity.
