“With deep sorrow and profound grief, and with hearts believing in God’s will and destiny, the Executive Bureau of the Democratic Labor Organization received the news of the death of the late, may God have mercy on him, the human rights activist and prominent political figure, Mr. Sion Assidon.
The deceased was a national and human rights figure, and one of the most prominent Moroccan Jewish voices who upheld the values of struggle for social justice, combating corruption, and consolidating democracy in our country. He was also known for his absolute dedication and steadfast belief in the justice of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to liberation and the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The deceased dedicated his life to serving causes of justice and fairness, leaving behind a rich legacy of struggle and great sacrifices in facing challenges, making him a beacon for generations and for the Moroccan human rights and trade union movement supporting just causes.
With this great loss, the members of the Executive Bureau and the Organization extend their sincerest condolences to the deceased’s honorable family and to his comrades in the democratic struggle and the BDS movement, asking Almighty God to bestow His vast mercy upon him.
As the Organization recalls the virtues of the deceased, it renews its commitment to continuing the struggle to promote human rights, defend social justice, and support the causes of oppressed peoples, foremost among them the just Palestinian cause.
‘To God we belong and to Him we return.'”
Context of Death and Results of Official Investigation
Sion Assidon died in a private clinic in Casablanca, after entering a coma since August 19, 2025, following his being found unconscious in his home in Mohammedia. The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Casablanca Court of Appeal confirmed, in an official statement issued on November 8, that the medical autopsy conducted by a committee of three forensic doctors concluded that the death resulted from septic complications of a traumatic head injury, including meningeal hemorrhage, cerebral contusions, and skull fractures. Investigations favor the hypothesis of his falling from a ladder while pruning his garden, supported by physical evidence and surveillance camera footage showing him entering the house alone.
His death sparked widespread reaction in human rights and trade union circles, with condolences issued by multiple organizations, and calls to honor his legacy by continuing the struggle for social justice.
