A Dire Crisis in Sefrou Education Directorate: 26 Teachers Without Chairs

One education institution under the Sefrou Directorate is facing an unprecedented crisis due to a lack of chairs for teachers in classrooms. According to posts shared on social media by groups connected to teachers in the directorate, approximately 26 teachers have to spend about five hours daily standing without any opportunity to sit. This has severely affected their well-being, especially for pregnant teachers, elderly ones, and those with chronic illnesses.

This situation has sparked widespread discontent among educators and education stakeholders in the city, who warn that such conditions undermine teachers’ dignity and fail to meet reasonable working conditions. Several comments highlighted that the chair shortage not only represents material neglect but also points to administrative shortcomings and delayed responses to long-standing demands.

The chair shortage issue in Sefrou recalls ongoing criticisms regarding deteriorating educational infrastructure in the city, where similar complaints about inadequate facilities and learning resources frequently arise.

Teachers from within the institution told communication groups that they sometimes resort to sitting on the floor or standing for prolonged periods, causing evident fatigue. They issued an urgent appeal to officials in the Sefrou Education Delegation to intervene promptly to provide chairs and essential work tools to preserve discipline and stability in the educational process.

Social media users showed strong solidarity with the teachers and their legitimate demands, calling for accountability from those responsible for this neglect and for quick solutions that respect teachers’ rights and improve the learning environment in Sefrou.

This crisis highlights again the urgent need to improve the working conditions of education workers in Morocco, particularly in institutions suffering from a lack of basic equipment, recognizing the vital and sensitive role of teachers in shaping generations and ensuring quality education.
