April 29, 2026 – Sefrou

Sefrou – The misdemeanor chamber of the Court of First Instance in Sefrou issued its ruling on Monday in a case involving defamation and violation of privacy through social media platforms. The case concerned a digital influencer prosecuted following a complaint filed by Moroccan singer Latifa Raafat.

The court sentenced the defendant to one year in prison and imposed a fine of 10,000 Moroccan dirhams after convicting him on charges related to defamation and the publication of content considered harmful to the artist’s private life.

In the civil aspect of the case, the judicial panel also ordered the defendant to pay financial compensation of 100,000 dirhams to Latifa Raafat, after determining that the published content included allegations and information damaging to her reputation.

The case originated from a complaint filed by the artist through her legal defense team following the circulation of videos and digital content on social media platforms containing accusations and information she considered defamatory and intrusive to her private life.

On March 16, the public prosecutor ordered the defendant’s detention in pretrial custody after a video widely shared on social media included statements and allegations that generated significant public reaction.

The case is part of a growing number of legal proceedings in Morocco related to the use of social media and digital publishing platforms, particularly in matters involving defamation and violations of privacy.
