Moroccan Teacher Mohamed Fattah Nominated for UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education 2025

Mr. Mohamed Fattah, an English teacher at Moulay Ismail Secondary School in Meknes, continues to make a distinguished mark in both the Moroccan and international educational fields through his pioneering initiatives to renew education and promote global citizenship values within public schools. He was officially nominated by the National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science to represent Morocco in the UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education 2025, one of the most prestigious awards recognizing educational projects with a humanistic and global dimension.

Mr. Fattah serves as the international coordinator for the “Connecting Classrooms” program, overseen by the Curriculum Directorate in partnership with the British Council. This project aims to strengthen cooperation among schools worldwide by exchanging values and knowledge through his innovative educational project, “Connecting Schools for Cooperation and International Values.” As a result of this project, Moulay Ismail Secondary School won a national award of 30,000 MAD from the Moroccan National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science, honoring its outstanding efforts in educational innovation.

Mr. Mohamed Fattah is among the most prominent Moroccan educators with wide international recognition. He was awarded the title of “Best Teacher in the World 2023” by AKS Education Awards and received an honorary doctorate in Education and Innovative Leadership from an international university in Turkey, acknowledging his contributions to advancing educational practices.

To further enhance his expertise in sustainable education, Fattah completed the OPEN program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, which supports teachers in integrating climate change topics into classroom practice. He also received a certificate of appreciation from the European Schoolnet Academy for innovative teaching methods in climate education. Moreover, he was selected among 35 teachers worldwide to participate in the Nobel Prize Teachers Summit in Sweden, a new international recognition of his educational efforts.

His project revitalizes textbook content through interactive activities based on the five core pillars of the Moroccan English curriculum: Communication, Cultures, Comparisons, Connections, and Communities. The project uses digital technologies to connect learners with schools and partners across the globe, fostering critical thinking, creativity, leadership, and global citizenship among students.

Mr. Mohamed Fattah emphasizes that his educational vision is centered on “empowering learners to become active leaders in their communities, capable of dialogue and open to the world with a spirit of cooperation and responsibility.”

His inspiring career exemplifies what Moroccan public schools can achieve when educators are given opportunities for innovation and international collaboration, transforming them into genuine spaces for educational excellence and leadership.
