Ouatate El Haj: Drought and Neglect Threaten Tasiouant Village with Mass Migration

Ouatate El Haj, Morocco – The village of Tasiouant, part of the Ouled Ali commune in the Boulemane province, is facing a severe environmental and social crisis that threatens to turn it into an abandoned village. This crisis is the result of ongoing drought, compounded by what the residents describe as a “lack of official interventions” to mitigate its effects.

According to local sources from the village, livestock breeders in the area are encountering great difficulties as they have lost their historic grazing lands, which were their primary source of livelihood. This has led many families to seriously consider migration in search of better living opportunities.

Residents confirmed that vital projects intended to alleviate the drought’s impact, such as the underground dam project “Iwafaf” and the repair of the “Aman Ayad” dam, have been stalled, further increasing the despair among the population.

This tragic situation places local authorities under direct responsibility to take urgent action and provide sustainable solutions that ensure the stability of the residents and protect them from the threat of forced migration.
