After making strides in electric cars and motorcycles, Morocco is now soaring into the world of electric aviation through a strategic partnership with the British company Vertical Aerospace, a leader in electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL). Vertical Aerospace recently announced a long-term agreement with Aciturri Aerostructures, which operates in several countries including Morocco, to manufacture the complete airframe of its innovative electric aircraft, the VX4, within the Kingdom.
This agreement covers the production of wings, tail, pylons, and the main fuselage of the aircraft in both the pre-production and production versions pending certification. Aciturri will also take responsibility for the manufacturing engineering of multiple structural components, ensuring high quality and efficient large-scale production.
Stuart Simpson, CEO of Vertical Aerospace, explained that the accelerating market demand for the VX4 requires a frame specifically designed for the challenges of electric VTOL flight and the highest safety certification standards. He emphasized that Aciturri’s technical expertise and industrial capability are key to transforming great designs into exceptional aircraft.
Manuel Gonzalez Relaño, CEO of Aciturri, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Vertical to develop, certify, and produce an environmentally friendly aircraft that can be exported and commercially viable on a global scale. He identified Morocco as a crucial hub for sustainable electric mobility industrial initiatives.
This milestone reflects the advancement of the Moroccan aerospace industry—Aciturri has established an industrial site near Casablanca in Nouaceur, employing specialized teams skilled in manufacturing and assembling complex components. This partnership underscores growing global investor confidence in Morocco’s industrial sector, which boasts over 140 companies and exports exceeding 21 billion Moroccan dirhams annually.
The VX4 aircraft is capable of carrying four passengers plus a pilot and is powered entirely by electric motors, producing zero operational emissions. It sets a landmark in urban and regional eco-friendly air mobility. Vertical Aerospace is also working on a hybrid electric version to extend operational range in areas with limited electrical infrastructure or challenging geography.
With nearly 1500 pre-orders from major global companies like American Airlines and Japan Airlines, expectations are high for a transformative shift in regional air transport, positioning Morocco as a manufacturing and innovation force in this future-oriented industry.
Through this project, Morocco opens new horizons in electric aviation technology, cementing its role as a leading destination for high-tech aircraft manufacturing aligned with the global move toward environmental sustainability and electric mobility.
