Bank Al-Maghrib: Increase in Money Supply and Revival of Bank Credit during June 2025

Bank Al-Maghrib announced in its monthly report for June 2025 a continued growth in the money supply (M3) and a positive development in bank credit to the non-financial sector, alongside some key economic indicators reflecting significant movements.

Key points of the report are as follows:

  • The money supply (M3) reached 1,956.3 billion dirhams in June 2025, marking an annual increase of 8%, up from 7.7% in May.
  • The evolution of M3 involves several main factors, including an acceleration in bank credit growth to the non-financial sector to 4.4%, compared to 3.4% in May.
  • Official reserve assets rose notably by 11.1%, compared to 8.4% in May.
  • The decline in net claims of deposit institutions on the Central Administration eased from 1.1% to 0.9%.
  • Bank credit growth to the non-financial sector accelerated, while household loans stabilized at approximately 2.5%.
  • By economic purpose, the annual growth of bank credit to the non-financial sector showed accelerated growth in equipment loans, rising to 12.6% after 11.8%, and consumer loans increasing to 2.8% from 2.5%. Treasury advances improved from a decline of 2.1% to a growth of 0.4%. Meanwhile, mortgage loan growth slowed slightly from 3.2% to 3%.
  • Non-performing loans recorded an increase of 5.7% in June, compared to 4.6% in May 2025, indicating challenges in credit portfolio quality.

These indicators show the continued dynamism of the Moroccan economy despite some challenges, with notable improvement in credit flow to vital economic sectors, supporting economic growth, investment, and job creation.

Economic observers remain attentive to developments in the coming months, especially regarding the rise in non-performing loans which may require careful monitoring by authorities to avoid future financial risks.
