New Fuel Price Increase in Morocco Despite Falling International Oil Prices

Moroccan motorists are once again facing a rise in fuel prices, with pump prices increasing this Tuesday morning by 41 cents for diesel and 29 cents for gasoline.

This marks the second increase since the beginning of June, even as global energy markets show signs of easing. According to Reuters, oil prices experienced a slight decline on Monday due to the easing of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East region, notably following a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, which is currently considered “stable.”

Jamal Zrikem, President of the National Federation of Owners, Traders, and Managers of Service Stations in Morocco, confirmed in press statements that these price hikes were implemented starting Tuesday by two of the country’s largest fuel distribution companies. He noted that the new prices are uniform across all affected stations.

Another service station manager interviewed by the media also confirmed the implementation of the new pricing.

It is worth recalling that oil prices had risen about ten days ago amid fears related to the US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. Since then, the trend has stabilized as markets were reassured by the maintenance of the ceasefire in the region, according to Reuters.

This domestic price increase, which contrasts with the decline in international prices, has caused confusion and frustration among many Moroccan consumers. Calls for greater transparency in fuel price formation are growing amid pressures on purchasing power and persistent inflation.

These developments come at a time when Moroccan citizens face significant economic challenges, making fuel prices a sensitive issue requiring clear and transparent intervention from the relevant authorities.
