Rabat Prepares to Host the First National Forum on Artificial Intelligence under the Theme “An Effective and Ethical AI Strategy Serving Our Society”

Starting tomorrow, Monday, and over two days (July 1-2, 2025), the capital city Rabat will host a landmark national event: the first National Forum on Artificial Intelligence. Organized by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform under the theme “An Effective and Ethical AI Strategy Serving Our Society,” this unprecedented initiative reflects Morocco’s deep awareness of rapid technological changes and its proactive approach to the demands of the digital future. It also marks a foundational milestone aimed at shaping a comprehensive Moroccan vision for artificial intelligence that respects national particularities and serves the public interest across economic, social, and cultural dimensions.

This forum holds special significance as it is organized under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, granting it a strategic dimension and a clear message that Morocco places technological sovereignty at the core of its priorities, viewing it as an extension of its national sovereignty. The forum also expresses a supreme will to make technological progress a lever for Morocco’s development model and a guarantee of social and knowledge justice that meets citizens’ needs and addresses future challenges.

The forum comes amid an unprecedented acceleration in AI technology development worldwide. Estimates by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), a London-based data analysis and digital transformation firm, indicate that AI could add over $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030, equivalent to 14% of the global GDP, making it one of the most significant engines of economic growth in the near future. Against this backdrop, Morocco is keen to assert its position within this digital momentum by moving from awareness of AI’s importance to concrete action through the development of supportive public policies.

Deputy Minister in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal Fallah Es-Saghrouchni, has emerged as a key figure leading this transformation with determination. Her efforts in organizing this forum are part of a continuous process to build a comprehensive national strategy that involves various active stakeholders and focuses on harnessing Moroccan talents both domestically and abroad. The minister has repeatedly emphasized that Morocco aspires not only to consume AI technologies but also to produce and adapt them in ways that serve its interests, values, and identity.

The forum is expected to conclude with clear recommendations and actionable steps toward implementation, with Minister Es-Saghrouchni continuing to steer this journey with steadfastness and professionalism befitting Morocco’s stature on the international stage. She believes that artificial intelligence represents a strategic opportunity to position Morocco as an active and pioneering player in the global technological landscape, enhancing its competitiveness and contributing to sustainable development.
