Spanish police arrested Firas Taghi, the cousin of the infamous Dutch-Moroccan mafia leader Ridouan Taghi, last Saturday while trying to cross the border into Morocco via the southern Tarifa checkpoint, according to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, citing informed security sources.
Firas Taghi, 24 years old, is suspected of involvement in an international criminal network specializing in drug trafficking and money laundering. He has been under investigation since 2020 for allegedly assisting Ridouan Taghi in his attempt to escape from a maximum-security prison in the Netherlands after being extradited from Dubai.
€8,000 Cash and Money Laundering Evidence Found
Dutch authorities discovered €8,000 in cash during a search of Firas Taghi’s residence, along with evidence linking him to a criminal organization associated with one of the largest drug traffickers in the Netherlands, nicknamed “El Chapo of Utrecht.”
Raids Yield Major Seizures
Last week, Dutch police conducted a series of raids in Gelderland province, seizing significant quantities of drugs, cash, luxury vehicles, firearms, encrypted phones, and cryptocurrencies. Two other suspects were arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation.
The criminal network allegedly traffics various drugs, including hard narcotics and synthetic substances commonly used in “dance parties.” Investigations continue in close coordination between Spanish and Dutch authorities.
